How to Win Big by Winning Small: A Reseller’s Guide to Success
Whether you're flipping clothes on Poshmark, selling pre-loved designer bags on Vestiaire Collective, or listing treasures on eBay and Mercari, success in reselling often comes down to mastering the small, daily actions. Let’s explore how tracking your habits—both personal and business-related—can help you build a thriving reselling business.
The Benefits of Tracking Daily
Most people want to win big, but few are willing to commit to the small daily steps that lead to those wins. If you’re serious about growing your reselling business, you need to promise yourself one thing: track your personal habits and business performance consistently for at least one week.
It may sound simple, but consistency is key. The data you track—whether it’s your listing performance or how many times you relist—will reveal opportunities to optimize your business for greater profits.
Why You Need to Track Yourself First
Your business’s success starts with you. As a reseller, you’re not just the CEO; you’re also the main employee, operations manager, and creative director. If you’re not operating at your best, your business will reflect that.
Here’s My Morning Routine That Sets Me Up for Success:
- Wake up immediately. No more than 5 minutes of scrolling.
- Drink a glass of lemon water. This simple act wakes me up and reminds me to prioritize my health.
- Make a healthy breakfast. Eggs, greens, and a bit of feta cheese—it’s quick and fuels me for the day ahead.
- Move your body. A 30-minute walk, bike ride, or workout keeps your energy levels high.
- Learn something new. Whether it’s a podcast or a book about business, daily learning sharpens your skills.
These small actions have a massive impact on my productivity, mindset, and ultimately, my reselling business.
A Reseller’s Daily Checklist for Success
Now that we’ve covered personal habits, let’s move on to the business-specific tasks that will help you win daily and grow your profits.
1. Know Your Numbers (Day 1)
Compare your current month’s performance to the same month last year. Are sales up or down? If they’re down, don’t panic—adjust your goals and create an action plan to recover.
2. Share Your Closet (Poshmark)
Set up your Poshmark closet to be shared at least five times a day. Tools like PosherVA can automate this process and make sure you’re maximizing visibility.
3. Relist 5-10 Items Daily
Relist popular items with lots of likes to drive traffic back to your store. On Poshmark, the "sell similar" feature is an easy way to refresh listings.
4. Do One Hard Thing Daily
Whether it’s tackling your death pile, researching tax benefits of an LLC, or finding better shipping supply deals, start with the hardest task first.
5. Audit 5 Listings for SEO
Search your own items on platforms like eBay, Poshmark, and Google. If your items aren’t ranking high, refine your titles and descriptions to match consumer searches.
The Power of Winning Small
By committing to these small, daily tasks for just one week, you’ll build momentum. Wins compound over time, and with consistency, you’ll find that the habits you develop will fuel long-term success.
